The upward trend in automotive transactions and new registrations continues in Morocco’s automotive market. For the first time in the history of mobility in Morocco, new vehicle sales exceeded 100,000 units during the first five months of the year. This unprecedented momentum is mainly driven by growth in tourism and car rental activities, fleet renewal by both households and businesses, the electrification of the vehicle fleet, increasingly flexible financing solutions, and the expansion of market offerings through new entrants—particularly Asian brands in general and Chinese brands in particular. Out of around fifty brands currently operating in Morocco, 20 are Chinese brands. Supporting these trends with figures, the Association of Vehicle Importers in Morocco recorded 104,555 vehicle sales during the first five months of the current year, representing double-digit growth of 17.8% compared with the same period in 2025.In May alone, 23,037 vehicles were sold, reflecting growth of 2.8%. “Following the record sales achieved in 2025, totaling 235,372 units, the automotive market is consolidating its upward trajectory, with five consecutive months of performance above last year’s levels,” confirmed Abdelouahab Ennaciri. Another major trend is the acceleration of the energy transition.Indeed, the share of electrified vehicles — including hybrid and electric models (BEV, PHEV, HEV, MHEV and REEV) — reached 17.8% of passenger vehicle sales, compared with 10.8% during the same period a year earlier (January–May 2025). The total volume of electrified vehicles sold reached 15,830 units. Plug-in hybrids (PHEVs) posted the strongest increase, soaring by 269.5%. They were followed by mild hybrids (MHEV), which recorded strong growth of 232.3%, with 2,918 vehicles sold. Last May was marked by accelerating passenger vehicle sales. With 20,270 units sold, passenger vehicles recorded their strongest monthly performance since the beginning of the year, according to AIVAM. During the first five months of the year, the passenger vehicle segment reached 92,153 new registrations, representing growth of more than 18% compared with the same period in 2025. It should be noted that passenger vehicles alone account for the lion’s share of Morocco’s automotive market, representing 88% of total sales.
